von rené götzenbrugger // um 13:03 uhr is it design? or maby just nonsens? or art? however described: the enfant terrible of the czech design szene maxim velcovsky likes to provoke. also with his project of redesign the interior of a church in eastern bohemia. thats the reason why i want to introduce this guy and give you some interesting points about him and this project.
velocovsky loves the past and most of his projects are a homage of it. after a long time of the boring sozailistic design they start to play with different styles and attitudes. experts call it "design dadaismus". some others call it "creative provokations with a simple function". together with its partner jakub berdych he found the designstudio qubus. here they develope also the redesing of the church named "kostel sv. bartoloměje".
you will find there verner panton chairs customised with a punched crucifix, persian rugs and chandeliers of rough-cut crystal.
“the redesign and religiousness of this design icon is multiplied by its installation on dozens of persian carpets, which are so typical for muslim shrines. zhis space is an eclectic cocktail and a place to ponder, moving us towards cultural dialogue.” the designer says.
maybe it is nice, but in my opinion the result of a interior design like this should be called "art": because of the context of the meaning. there is no funktion, there are no ergonomics. its only the phantasm of an artist. but on the other hand its very interesting that art could have an attitude to give things worth. this is an important point for designing things. because only a function without any worth isn´t a good product in nowadays.
